Beeswax is used as a thread conditioner because it strengthens thread, reduces tangles, and makes it easier to sew with:

• Strengthens thread: Beeswax coats the thread, making it less likely to stretch. 
• Reduces tangles: Beeswax helps keep thread fibers close together, which prevents tangles. 
• Easier to sew with: Beeswax makes thread glide through fabric more easily. It also helps multiple strands of thread cling together and lay well. 
• Reduces fraying: Beeswax can help prevent fraying. 
• Reduces static: Beeswax can reduce static in the thread.

Here are some tips for using beeswax as a thread conditioner:

• A little goes a long way. The coating of wax should be barely noticeable. 
• To apply, place the thread on top of the wax, hold it in place with your thumb, and gently pull the thread through. 
• To smooth out the wax, run your thumb and forefinger along the length of the thread. 
• Beeswax is best for hand stitching and can gum up a sewing machine. 
• Beeswax can dull the shine of embroidery floss. 
• Beeswax can darken rayon thread. 

Beeswax thread conditioner can be used for more than just sewing:

• Protect threads from abrasion: In goldwork, beeswax can be used to protect silk or synthetic threads from metal threads. 
• Strengthen threads: Beeswax can be used to strengthen threads when sewing on buttons, beads, or other objects. 
• Polish woodwork: Beeswax can be used to polish woodwork. 
• Wax drawer slides: Beeswax can be used to wax sticky drawer slides. 
• De-squeak hinges: Beeswax can be used to de-squeak hinges. 
• Leather Conditioner: for burnishing or "healing" leather scuffs. beeswax protects leather from drying out and keeps dirt and water out. Beeswax thread conditioner can also strengthen thread, reduce breakage, and prevent tangling and fraying on your leather items.
• Puppy Paws: Beeswax creates a protective layer on a dog's paws that shields them from salt, chemicals, ice, and snow. Apply the beeswax to your dog's paws 1–2 minutes before walking in the snow or ice.
